A study, which was published in the August issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, showed that working out once may not help you get a good night's rest, and those who had regular long-term exercise (worked the way up to 30 minute work out sessions three or four times a week) over a 16-week period were able to get more snooze time. After the 16-week period, those who exercised were sleeping an extra 46 minutes a night for a total of 6 hours and 40 minutes.

A revolution occurring in cancer treatment                                             August 4, 2013

The standard cancer treatments today reflect: surgery physically cuts out malignant lesions; chemotherapy agents dissolve them from within; and radiation seeks and destroys abnormally dividing cells. But as effective as they are, these interventions can be just as brutal on the patient as they are on a tumor. Studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine in June showed a new type of anti-cancer drug, which works in an entirely different way from chemotherapy in treating leukemia. The drug, Gleevec, aimed at specific pathways that tumor cells use to thrive, blocking them. The advantage of such precise strategies is that they leave healthy cells alone, which for patients means fewer side effects and complications.
